BiZ Solo Nuremberg: Building Physics for an Energy-Efficient Educational Building

Building Physics, Building Acoustics and Energy Performance Assessment for the New Reception Building at the BauindustrieZentrum in Nuremberg-Wetzendorf

With the construction of the new BiZ Solo reception building, the Bavarian Construction Industry Association expanded its BauindustrieZentrum (BiZ) in Nuremberg-Wetzendorf with a modern facility for administration, communication and events. The building comprises a divisible lecture hall, a spacious foyer, meeting rooms and offices, combining architectural quality with demanding requirements for building physics, energy efficiency and acoustics.

Building physics for energy efficiency and thermal comfort

MorgenGrün's building physics design focused consistently on energy efficiency and a high level of user comfort. Thanks to a holistic energy concept, the building meets the German KfW 55 efficiency standard.

Natural ventilation in the office areas, energy-efficient mechanical ventilation systems for the lecture hall and meeting rooms, and a combination of underfloor heating and heating and cooling ceiling panels create a comfortable indoor climate while ensuring economical operation. Heat is supplied via the site's local heating network.

Building and room acoustics for optimal learning and working conditions

Building and room acoustics were a particular focus of the project. MorgenGrün developed the sound insulation concept to effectively reduce sound transmission between offices, meeting rooms and event spaces. This creates optimal conditions for focused work, confidential conversations and a high-quality indoor environment.

MorgenGrün also tailored the acoustic design of each space to its specific use. Effective acoustic absorption in the office areas provides excellent working conditions even when occupied by groups. For the divisible lecture hall and meeting rooms, MorgenGrün developed a room acoustics concept that ensures excellent speech intelligibility, creating ideal conditions for training sessions, lectures and meetings.

Noise immission control for sustainable site development

In addition to structural sound insulation, MorgenGrün assessed noise immissions in relation to the future development of the entire site. Alongside the new building, the assessment also included the new multi-storey car park and the modernised heating plant.

On this basis, MorgenGrün determined the future external noise levels, refined the requirements for structural sound insulation and demonstrated that the new uses could be integrated into the existing neighbourhood without adverse noise impacts.

Holistic building physics for sustainable building performance

BiZ Solo is a forward-looking reception building that combines high energy standards with sophisticated solutions in thermal building physics, building acoustics and room acoustics.

MorgenGrün thus created optimal conditions for focused work, successful events and lasting user comfort. The result is an energy-efficient educational building offering a high-quality indoor environment and sustainable building performance.
