Kaufpark Nickern Shopping Centre, Dresden

Energy efficiency and sustainability for a modern shopping location

The new Kaufpark Nickern shopping centre on the south-eastern outskirts of Dresden replaces the previous centre and creates almost 30,000 m² of retail space for well-known retail companies. In addition to shops, the mall houses restaurants and a flexible event space. The townhouses at the entrance offer space for restaurants, retail, culture and administration, as well as a supervised children's area. To enable main tenants such as MediaMarkt and Kaufland to move in smoothly, the new building was constructed in two phases.

Our contribution: energy efficiency and sustainability

Our team designed the energy concept and the structural thermal insulation – the building meets the KfW 40 EE standard. This enabled the client to obtain BEG funding for efficient new buildings. Green roofs and facades as well as the photovoltaic system contribute further to climate neutrality.

Special highlights

We are particularly proud that the building combines so many functions – shopping,  residential, childcare, offices and restaurants – while at the same time offering a high level of comfort for all users thanks to its excellent sound insulation, despite the complex mixed structure.

Flexibility pays off: energy targets met

The construction of a multifunctional shopping centre presented particular challenges: redesigns due to tenant fit-outs and adjustments to the supply concept were necessary in order to meet the ambitious targets. However, thanks to careful planning, the energy targets were achieved.

Sustainability as a guiding principle

From its location in south-east Dresden to the design of the new building, Kaufpark focused on sustainability and efficiency. Extensive green roofing, partially greened façades and the integration of a photovoltaic system covering 14,000 m² of roof space underline this commitment.

Conclusion: Future-proof shopping – implemented in a sustainable and energy-efficient manner

With our expertise in energy concepts, thermal insulation and sustainable construction, we have created a future-proof solution that combines ecological, economic and functional applications.
The Kaufpark Nickern is therefore not only a modern shopping centre, but also a showcase project in terms of sustainability and energy-efficient construction.
