Dr-Ing Jan Richarz will speak at the 5th TGA Congress, taking place on 21 and 22 May 2025 in Berlin with the theme “Building Services Engineering for People and the Environment”.

The congress promotes exchange between science, industry, planning, and plant construction to accelerate the practical implementation of scientific findings in the field of building services engineering (TGA). Over nine sessions, more than 50 presentations will be given on scientific topics as well as on standards and regulations.

Themes and Programme

On the first day of the congress, following the opening with welcome addresses and a keynote speech, three parallel sessions will focus on sustainability in building services engineering, smart buildings, and the heating transition. The evening event provides an opportunity for personal networking.

On the second day, topics include “TGA 2045”, smart buildings, the heating transition, waste heat utilisation, water hygiene, and the connection between building services engineering and health. The event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring industry representatives and universities.

Efficient Use of Waste Heat: Jan Richarz Presents Energy Concepts with Waste Heat Integration for Manufacturing Companies

Our MorgenGrün colleague Jan will give a presentation on 22 May entitled “Waste Heat Utilisation in Industrial Processes – Innovative Energy Design of a Production Facility’s Supply System through Mathematical Optimisation”. He will present innovative approaches to developing cost-optimal energy concepts incorporating industrial waste heat utilisation — a huge potential for decarbonising industry. The focus is on the sensible integration of waste heat into production processes and sites.

Using a real project example, Jan compares system sizing through mathematical optimisation with conventional heuristic methods. The findings show that combining physical and economic models with intelligent algorithms in optimisation processes can significantly reduce total costs of industrial energy systems as well as lower CO₂ emissions more effectively.

Jan is responsible at MorgenGrün for the areas of building modernisation and decarbonisation of industrial processes.

The event will be moderated by Bernhard Dürheimer, President of the Federal Industry Association for Building Services Engineering (BTGA e.V.) until early May 2025.
